DermaPen® is used in a simple procedure to improve fine wrinkles, scars caused by acne, surgery, or traumatic events, skin tone and loose skin. DermaPen® is a micro-needling device that penetrates the dermal layers of the skin and gives us results that come from below the surface. As DermaPen® traces your skin’s surface, it causes micro-injuries — also known as micro-damage — that begin a healing process. This healing process triggers more production of collagen and elastin to help tighten and tone your skin. Similar to laser resurfacing, this will assist in improving scars and fine wrinkles, but can be used on the most sensitive skin, unlike a laser. Post-needling, your rejuvenation will go on for months after every treatment. These changes can be evident immediately, but also continue to improve over time.
There are two types of treatments for DermaPen®. The first procedure calls for the use of a numbing cream that is applied to the area and allows for a more in-depth treatment of wrinkles and scars. The second procedure is less invasive, covering a shallow depth that leads to tone and texture improvement — this latter procedure does not need the anesthetic cream. The treated area of skin may appear red and irritated for a few days, depending on your skin’s sensitivity and the type of treatment. It’s important to follow the post-care treatment provided by Laser Loft to minimize any adverse side effects.
Your skin will look and feel rejuvenated after just 6-8 days following a procedure, and even more impressive results will show over time. Laser Loft recommends pursuing a course of sessions (several treatments) to achieve the best results.
Serious side effects are highly unlikely to occur. The DermaPen® procedure is a minimally invasive one, meaning the healing process is quick with almost no downtime. Common side effects may occur, such as redness, stinging, itching and tightness of the treated area, but these generally subside within 48 hours after the procedure with proper treatment.
