Melasma Jacksonville FL

Melasma is a common skin problem likely to appear in women with a hormone imbalance, pre and post pregnancy, or going on or off birth control. Also known as the “pregnancy mask”, is causes brown patches on the face, cheeks, upper lip, chin, forehead, and the bridge of the nose. It can also can appear on other parts of the body that are exposed to sunlight on a regular basis, sun exposure without sunscreen makes Melasma even darker. We use a Q switch laser which delivers nanosecond pulse duration, selectively targeting the Melasma with thermal diffusion. This means that the laser breaks down the over produce of melanin in the skin and over the course of the next couple of weeks the Melasma gently exfoliates off and becomes lighter.

Using Obagi medical products, which contains an ingredient called Hydroquinone, expedites your results due to the fact that it is a lightening and brightening agent. Since excessive sun exposure will interfere with your results be sure to limit the amount of sun you are exposed to. If the process is followed correctly you will need approximately 3-6 laser treatments in order to see a change in the skin. If the process is not repeated you will generally only see temporary results. Prior to any treatments we recommend that you consult with your physician and we will also set up a free consultation to give our best advice.
